Each successive level demonstrates competence in ski instruction, pedagogy , as well as individual ski performance. As such, the highest level four is difficult to attain, with only a handful of instructors holding that level within each region. Lately, the CSIA came up with a merit certification for ski instructors that were part of the organization for twenty-five or more consecutive years. The celebrated members are normally awarded a "year member" pin, as well as a certificate, recognizing their efforts in the field. Today, the CSIA is divided into a set of regional chapters, each of which covers at least one Canadian province. The national office is the centralization point of all activities.

They work closely with ski schools around Canada and, as a federally recognised teaching institution, trains and certifies instructors. Representatives from each make up the National Board of Directors. The CSIA is made up of four levels, each building on the skills and training from the last. This is the entry point for all potential ski instructors in Canada and any skier over the age of 15 who is a competent parallel skier can take the course. The Level 1 assessment consists of two on mountain sections technique and teaching and an online interactive module. If you feel that you have the right skills, you can book yourself onto a CSIA Level 1 certification course yourself, which lasts for 3 days, just turn up in resort and take the certification.
