son's 21st birthday - Las Vegas Forum
I am surprising my son and a friend of his with a trip to Vegas on his 21st birthday in August. Since this will be his first trip, I have decided to stay mid strip. I know these are two very different resorts and different types of rooms. I have never stayed in either resort. I'd choose the Venetian over Mirage.
Many people don't consider it mid-strip. Did you look at Cosmo before narrowing it down to your two choices? That would be the spot most 21 year olds would want to be. I am only 27 so i remember my first vegas trip, when i turned 21, well. So what i remember about the room i stayed in is I only used it to pass out in after long nights of drinking and partying.
My 2 cents would be to get the room you want cuz odds are your son and his friends will hardly see it. I concur re Cosmopolitan; of the two you mentioned- Venetian- you only have one chance to create a first impression! Do you bite the bullet? I would. Agree with the 1st impression theory. But, it's very easy for me to spend your money. If you want your son to have such a time that He wants to return- where would you like Him to take you?
I took my daughter and her friend to vegas for her 21st and stayed at the Monte Carlo. My advice? Save the money and get a nice room at a reasonable price, Then take the money you saved and put it in a bday card for your son and let him gamble away. He will remember that long after what room he had or what the view was. As long as it has a Strip view, I don't think it'll matter much.
I don't remember a ton about my first room in Vegas , but I certainly remember the view of the Strip it had. I still look at the picture occasionally. I'd go for the younger vibe over a more fancy hotel for them. I have a 21 year old son with a group of friends that are also like sons to me I can pretty much guarantee none of them give too much thought of the room. A few of them would actually be uncomfortable in a fancier hotel I would agree that a hotel that has a younger vibe would probably be better. Thanks everyone for the advice.
I guess the main reason I picked these two is the fact the hotels are pretty much in the middle so they can go north or south to explore and hangout wherever they want. I also know my son is very frugal with money accounting major and he can get his feet wet with some low limit blackjack and craps at places like O'Sheas and Casino Royale. These two hotels look like they have fabulous pools also. I know what some of you are saying about the Cosmo.
Remember, I am in my mid 40's and I do not think I would fit into a place like that. Besides, when he comes back to Vegas with his friends and not Dad next time, he can opt to stay in a hotel that caters more to the 20 something crowds. Both beautiful hotels and are centrally located and both are usually not so expensive.

Tell me your story there im sure it was memorable, I want the hotel to have awesome nightlife and a pool. Overall just tell me your experience and that will help mine. Thanks a lot.
